@6MemoryOfForever9 in my face... maybe you should pick a book and read WHY the Church held up Galileo (he was a very close friend of the pope btw, so the pope had a very good reason to arrest him, which is not what everybody thinks it is. Seriously, read about it, and then if you have more questions, ask me about it. The Big Bang theory : Catholic Priest, LeMaitre....... Father of Genetics: Catholic Monk, Mendel...... Universities, Hospitals, etc... all started by the Catholic Church.

@midwesttex not a "liberal". Btw, the bible also sanctions other atrocities such as sexual relations between a father and daughters (Lot). But if you find comfort in some of the better passages, then good for you. I like the "Golden Rule" which was unfortunately booed by the audience in South Carolina after Ron Paul mentioned it as a guide for our foreign policy.

@sufisis The Jews were enslaved, thanks to Josephs' brothers who sold him into it. Slavery existed way before the bible was in written form. and there were so many slaves during the roman empire it was almost common as having a pet in the US. Not dealing with the issue of slavery would be akin to not mentioning cell phones or cars today. If one of Jewish faith bought a slave (i.e. buying his debt) he had to free him after 7 yrs. so, in typical liberal fashion, you state a 1/2 truth.

Actually the name arose during the Italian Renaissance where Protestantism never succeeded.
