My father was working in the area and I told him the 844 was gonna come through soon.So my dad took this clip of the 844 at San Leandro, just outside of Oakland. The train had already reached track speed....in a matter of minutes!!!!!For being 65 years old,the 4-8-4 Northern can still get up and go!!!!!

  • Why the hostility? there is no reason for it. A simple stay off the tracks attitude goes a long way, I work on the railroad and I've seen some crazy crap and my share of close calls of people on the tracks. The #1 rule of railroading : Expect movement from ANY TRACK any direction at ANY TIME. Think about that before next time you wanna be a jackass to someone trying to save your life or someone you love.

  • @Drewster327 Im not trying 2 be "hostile"!Its jus I didn't like tht smartass comment of urs u made.I wrk 4 Amtrak,nd Ive seen my close calls nd aftermath of pedestrian strikes. Its not a pretty site 2 look at!Again authorities were thr if my father (who took ths) was in the wrong they would have told him sumthn. Thanks 4 where ur heart nd thought is...we really do need 2 promote safety around railroad operations EVERYWHERE!

  • meanwhile a train from behind comes up and SMACK! The middle of a railroad track is NEVER a place to film a train PERIOD!

  • @Drewster327 Hey douchebag its single track on the Coast Subdivision; that track on the right is no longer connected to the mainline! If it was, then the Police officers present would have said something!

  • Nice job of trespassing.

  • It was actually my dad!

  • Don't know what these other two guys are talking about. I know that area well and he had plenty of room and it's a legal spot to be in. Nice catch. Thanks for posting it.

  • not a smart spot to be in!

  • I absolutely -love- the 844's whistle just about more than anything I've heard in a LONG time. Isn't it fantastic?? That has to catch a lot of people off-guard that don't know that steam engine is around, LoL!!
