  • You get the same effect from cataract surgery. Truly a wonderful development in medicine. I check my vision at 20/20 with refractive status of +3/4 diopters.

  • @paulsballsify i was giving her the benefit of the doubt. i know my definitions, but most people in the sighted world do not. i was not using the "official" term for low vision, i suppose i should have said lowER vision. i was just putting it into words that people who have no relation to the visually impaired community can understand...

  • @ChaosFascination No, the correct term for her to use is not "low vision." You complain about her improper use of legal blindness, then you go ahead and spew the same naivety towards another term involving visual impairment.

Low vision is anyone up to legal blindness (from mild to severe low vision) that CANNOT be corrected to 20/20 through any means.

My source, I have low vision. I'm not mad, but you tell her you're insulted, then you make the same mistake with different words. /facepalm

  • @CANTControlDESTINY that isnt legally blindness. if your vision can be corrected with surgery you just have normal vision problems, so when you phrase it as being "legally blind" when you really aren't, it offends the low vision community. take it from a white cane/braille user. its very difficult to handle low vision such as this, and when people say they are "legally blind" and have no idea what they are talking about, it makes others underestimate what people with true vision loss go through.

  • Ambiguous. In general "legal blindness" means you can not correct to better than 20/200. Even at 20/400, if you can "correct" with a minus to 20/20 -- you are not "legally blind". In the above case, it means that if you can't see 20/200 with out a minus -- your are "legally blind".

  • @ChaosFascination my eye doctor says i have 20/400 vision... but she never mentioned legally blind! and i have been told i can get surgery?

  • I also have 20/15 but its corrected to 20/10 only because my eyes focus too hard at distances and it causes my headaches.

  • i wonder what 20/15 is like thats what tiger woods has (what a lil cheater with his lazic cheating for golfing).

  • you do know that being legally blind means you cannot be corrected to vision better than 20/200

i am legally blind, and my vision at its best is 20/400

i cannot get surgery to correct my vision, so the correct term for you to use is "low vision"

  • 1-2 years, and you'll be nearsighted again. LASIK doesn't address the actual causes of myopia.
