One over into England's response to Australia's 359, the heavens opened, soaking the Edgbaston square before covers could be laid. The Australian pace bowlers took advantage of this extra life in the wicket, reducing England to 7/83 at stumps on day two. They were all out for 101 inside an hour the following morning. Dennis Lillee returned the amazing figures of 5/15 from 15 overs, while Max Walker swung the bowl markedly and also picked up a five wicket haul. John Edrich was England's only effective batsman with a very patient 34.

  • John Edrich's 34, according to my dad, who was at this match, is the best innings he ever saw in his opinion, and there are quite a lot to choose from. This pitch was an absolute pig, and having to face Lillee, Thomson, Walker and Gilmour for three hours, as he did, was pretty good stuff.

  • wait a mintue he got taped on this ass...wow

  • Wow..watching Dennis charge in to bowl would send a chill down your spine. What an athlete!

  • reason why covered wickets were introduced - this was purely bad luck for Deness.

  • tough pitch to bat on

  • Go Aussies
