As folks may or may not know, Kanye West used a sample of King Crimson's classic tune "21st Century Schizoid Man" in his new tune "Power". Apparently Robert Fripp, holder of the sample's copyright was somehow never contacted to clear the use of snippet before it was released. Apparently the two talked and got things worked out to Fripp's satisfaction. I wondered what conversation between one of the worlds most well know rap artists and one of progressive rock's iconic figures might have sounded like. Here's a possible version.

  • Is this a legit conversation that took place?

  • @elefantboys No, I made it up, hence the title "Possible" part in the title. The two did talk, or their people did, according to entries in Fripp's online diary at the time. :-)

  • This is some funny stuff!!!!!!

  • @mrbonzoorubber2 -Ozzy? Ozzy never recorded this song! This is King Crimson! Of which Kanye West had to pay given that he used this sample without their permission.

  • @wentkat And the sampled vocals Kanye West used are Greg Lake's vocals. Greg Lake was the original vocalist and bass player for King Crimson.

  • @mrbonzoorubber2 It's not Ozzy's version. King Crimson recorded 21st Century Schizoid Man in 1969. The song was written by Robert Fripp, Pete Sinfeild, and the other members of King Crimson.

  • Oh god I can't stop laughing

  • Kayne ? didn't even know who King Crimson was ,it's not even their version I think it's Ozzy version ,he should his homework before releasing anything else

  • the main point of Fripp, yes, but, the wording, no

  • Robert Fripp would never talk like that

  • Fuck it I Lied! Its Drum and Bass...

  • Cool. I am glad Kanye sampled my favorite band.
