Why only geeks and hippies can save the world.

He didn't get to everything he wanted to say. The full text of his intended speech is at his website:

  • I really respect him, he seems very likable, intelligent, and well intentioned. But I don't agree with him. I don't believe we can upload ourselves to computers and then let our bodies die. Or at least, it seems unlikely. I don't believe it is immoral to let society fall, because that is based on illusions that these things matters and that we can control them. Furthermore, assuming society will fall within 1,000 years is silly. No one can make accurate predictions about the flow of evolution.

  • sorry, posted that snippet and can't erase! interesting vid, i don't know why more people don't take the singularity seriously. thanks for your effort.

  • What is this?! I thought hippys cared about the planet? Now you want to get to the point where you don't need life as you know it? Thats a sad, sad little world you speak of. Glad none of us will be alive if that day comes. I agree with most of what you say, but stating that we don't want or need the planet earth is taking it too far. The world you speak of sounds like quite the vile one. No diverse, breath taking array of plants and animals. Just human beings and bacteria.
