  • Any club chess player knows that in a simul the featured player always plays white on every board, and the boards are in plain view of everyone else. This is to prevent tricks such as the one Derek pulled. So at least half the experts in the video knew about the scam right away.

  • The answer to this is simple.

    When the guy opens the envelope watch Derren carefully, he walks up to him and replaces the guys paper with his own. It's a brilliant piece of misdirection.
