(Please use headphones !) I remember I watched a while back two interviews with two parents. One of them lost his son. That was a very emotional video to watch because the father had the power to overcome his hostility and hatred towards the killer of his son. He understood that the young boy that killed his son used to be a very confused teen, a gang member and that his life hasn't been easy.
The unconditional love, unconditional forgiveness and unconditional acceptance with which the father enveloped the killer of his son totally transformed the life of the young gang member. He was 13 when he committed that crime..so he was a child himself ! Later on, the former gang member became a very respectable loving human being. And currently the father and the person who killed his son have been running a foundation which inspire young teens to keep away from gang life. And this foundation has done TREMENDOUS beneficial changes in the world. And none of this would have happened if the father had not reached with an open heart to the one that took way the life of his son. So you see, with each experience we have, we have the choice to take it as an opportunity to do something wonderful out of it or we can just waste it and let it bring us down and transform us in bitter, hateful and resentful beings ! The other short interview was of an American lady who lost her husband and daughter in a terrorist attack. She was devastated, but what struck me about this interview was the lady's serenity and kindness and PEACE ! Her whole being was radiating so much unconditional love and bliss ! She forgave the terrorists that took the lives of her husband and daughter and her eyes were filled with so much Light and forgiveness while she was talking about the whole tragedy...it was amazing to watch that interview ! She said she forgives them (the terrorists) because they didn't know better, because according to their perceptions they were right. Of course, these are two very extreme cases...but you see ? If these people were capable to forgive the ones that took the lives of their dear ones away, look at yourself now and think if it is worthy to keep being upset with your sister or boyfriend or neighbor or school teacher for whatever reason, .....Learn from this ! I know that these two stories have humbled me a lot.
Dostoyevsky himself said that a human is able of the most horrific acts when he or she thinks is right. As long as he is convinced he is right he looses his humanness and connection to the Divine and believes that everything is permitted and justified, he finds himself above morality ! That's how Holocaust happened, that's how terrorist attacks happen, and so on ! Those people that commit such horrible things are deeply wounded unhappy dormant people. The more love we send to them, the more we heal them. The more hatred and judgment we have towards them, the more we reinforce the same traits in the world. What do you choose to give your power to ? Do you choose to increase love in this world or you choose to increase hatred and judgment ?
