To put it mildly, I was stunned by the US Supreme Court ruling on National Health Care (Obamacare to the Right.) The world has turned upside down! The conservative court finally got around to doing what it is supposed to do: surprise us!

The Law's a winner, Obama's a winner, the nation's health is a winner and the Supreme Court is a winner, which is something I wasn't expecting today. I mean, its like the world has turned upside down. The Supreme Court has gone against the wishes of the Republican Party? This is like Darth Vader throwing the Emperor to his death -- although in this case it was Chief Justice John Roberts throwing Mitt Romney to his death. I was dreading this ruling because the court has been the lap dog of the right for years now, ever since they ended the recount in Florida back in 2000 and put George W. Bush in the White House. It seemed like a slam dunk that the court would side with the Republicans -- but they didn't. Chief Justice John Roberts dug deep, put politics aside, and restored the faith of a lot of disillusioned Americans in the court -- myself included -- by surprising us, because we're not supposed to always be able to predict how the court is going to rule. If we could do that there wouldn't be any need for a supreme court.
As for Mitt Romney, if you're thinking about voting for him, take a look at the tepid response he delivered to the court's decision. I mean, Obamacare is like Kryptonite to the Republican party and they hate it the way Apple hates Android. But my dentist shows more passion explaining the virtues of flossing that Romney does in rallying his troops against Obamacare.
And regardless of the outcome of November's election, good luck rounding up all the votes you'd need to actually pull off the Herculean task of repealing Obamacare. Because now that the court has ruled that its legal, and we're getting used to its benefits, any politician who succeeds in getting rid of it is going to have to deal with the consequences of that action: dead, dying and suffering people without any access to health care.
And if you thought trying to hang Obama with his Birth Certificate was fun, you'll love watching Republicans getting hung with Death Certificates.
