Yes that's very true. As Laura put it, the last thing Mary saw were Grace's big Blue eyes, looking up at her. And As Laura told it; Mary just quietly accepted her blindness. But i think Michael Landon saw it for an chance to show how well Melissa Sue could really dynomite actress! Thats how i see it anyway...just my two cents...
I dont like it, as this is not the way it was portrayed in the book. Of course I understand they could not DO IT EXACTLY as in the books. In reality, Mary had been blind for awhile, and so they knew of Schools for the Blind, and so the family scrimped and saved so that Mary could attend, and even Mary knew what a chance this was for her!!
