  • Sure - I have a video showing how to do it for a Mac, but assuming the video card drivers for linux support the HDTV's native resolution, it would work the same way for linux too.

  • I guess I wouldn't see the point of hooking up an HDTV to my PC if all I cared about was doing office tasks. With 1920x1080 being my maximum resolution on the HD screen, it's far lower than what I'd get with a PC monitor, meaning I'd see less data on the HDTV than I see on my desktop now.

  • Depends on your setup. If you have a home theater receiver, routing it from your sound card to your receiver is your best option. Most HDTV screens with DVI ports have RCA audio connections to go with them and some HDMI connections do as well, which would typically be a mini plug out of the PC to stereo RCA in.

  • Your Bravia doesn't have HDMI? That seems unlikely.

  • Upgrade your video card to one with DVI out for under $50.

  • I like it, thanks.

  • thanks! very helpful. I was arguing with a friend just yesterday that whether one can watch HDTV from a PC connected by a mere cable, he said that it requires a converter that costs a hundred bucks, but now you mentioned HDCP I know he was wrong ;)

  • this is the most helpful video ive ever seen!!!!
