  • Guitar has been through many phases in a short time.

And throughout it there have been players that have been credited with the turning tides, and taking to the next level for the world to feed off and expand as it will.

I fear time will almost forget Michael Hedges amidst the McKees and Mayers in the realm of acoustic guitar. Whoever controls his estate should really consider re-releasing some material . . "Artist Profile" and such . . I'll be first in line to buy a copy and share the joy.

  • @musicalcoffeedreams i couldn't agree more! what their needs to also be is his original recordings remastered, with unreleased bonus material on each disc. i'd love to hear decent recordings of his songs "death to distraction" and "i believe in you" those two songs are the most underrated songs he has ever sung!

  • thanks for this one! Really interesting story! Always a pleasure to see & hear this great guitar. I am still hunting the Live a Lake Tahoe concert HEdges did apparently DVD?. Any ideas? I've searched but nada. It's supposed to be a gem.

  • i don't know if their is a full concert like the one at the bottom line or his very last one in MA. but i do have this entire documentary and it has alot of the show in it. incluesing "ragamuffin" and "dirge w/special guest michael manring." their is another video posted of the same documentary of a performance of jitterboogie and ritual dance. so although their is no video with just the concert, this documentary features a decent portion of it.

  • you're most welcome.

  • This was a PBS special...not released for public sale to my knowledge. I used to have a VHS tape of it, but it disappeared :(. I'm a big fan so that hurts....OUCH!!!!. great to see the pieces of it up here. Thanks for posting.

BTW, the gig outside of Palo Alto was when he opened for the Grateful Dead once. I read this in a Guitar World magazine article.

  • I dont know what I love better, the fluidity of this piece or the look he makes at 3:37. Its still hard to beleive hes gone. As cool as cool gets.

  • thanks for posting this,i always loved Micheal Hedges music, and his personality and attitude,he just resonates, its just really good to hear his voice, both playing music and speaking

  • Great stuff!

  • omg. what a great story! i thought ii'd heard something about it returning. now i know.

when we were at the grammies, he ran into eddie van halen in the bathroom. i'm thinking eddie might have influenced this outfit. :)

  • what a great story!!!!

  • I always find he looks rather like a young William Sanderson. An amazing human being, Michael Hedges will live on forever in our hearts, minds, and ears.
