iSight HD outdoors test
Quality is impressive, often blurry with fast movement. Seems to do a good job keeping up with lighting changes. Bit rate is adaptive, but can surpass 30 mbps, and the frame rate can reach the mid 20 fps. Recorded with QuickTime's "Movie Recording" mode at 1280x1024, cropped to 16:9 aspect ratio and exported the h.264 codec at 6 mbps.

  • how can I make HD videos with the ishight? PhotoBooth goes only up to 640x480

  • Use QuickTime. If you're using QuickTime 7, the video size can be found in the Preferences. In QuickTime X, it can be found in the recording window, in a pop-up menu (triangle shape). Go to File> New Movie Recording to begin.

  • What size is this?

  • It was filmed at 1280x1024 and cropped to 1280x720. You can upload it without cropping if you prefer the 4:3 aspect ratio, and it's still HD on youtube.
