http://a20q.info/zBE8xO - Using Pixelmator in conduction with Art Text 2 to do Drop Shadows in your Mac graphic design.

Pixelmator 2 is a superb inexpensive graphics editing application and I like it because it is very Mac like in the way that it looks and works and is generally a good alternative to using Adobe PhotoShop. There were some very good improvements from version 1 two version 2 although there are still things that need to be done to improve the application in certain areas. I would like to see the controls for the drop shadow on text to be the same as for the controls for Pixelmator 2 shapes. It would also be nice to see in the next version of Pixelmator things like automatic guidelines as I see when I'm using applications such as ArtText 2 or Apple Keynote.

In this video I look at Pixelmator in comparison to ArtText 2 for adding outlines to objects whether they be text in the vector format, vector shapes, bitmap shapes or complete layers. Many of the tools, in particular the ability to apply outlines to objects, are easier in ArtText 2. I would argue that it is a good idea to have both Pixelmator and other graphic design applications in your designers Toolbox as it is generally quite easy to take designs and objects from one application to another. This makes it a fairly simple task to combine the use of various graphic design applications while making the designs that require more attention.

Pixelmator 2.0 Drop shadow effects I have found to be okay when using the Quartz Composer filters although the drop shadow that you get by using the Noise Industries filters are of a better quality. If you don't have the Quartz composer filters available on your Mac then there is a link on the Mac 20 questions website to where you can obtain them.
