Cirueña Fiestas, La Rioja, Spain

Spain is full of fiestas, this is a glimpse into just one of the many cities or towns that are currently in "fiestas" during the month of September. Soon enough San Mateo, the festivals of Logroño will begin...that will be a memorable time!

My good friend, Dani is the lead dancer of this group and they do a very traditional dance dedicated to the Virgen Mary of this town, Cirueña located close to the Rioja Alta wine region. Interesting enough, Mariachi music is played every year for as long as everyone can remember. I always equated Mariachi to Mexico...but for them it has always been something distinct of this region. Who knew... I am sure there is some history here I will need to dig up!
