This is a repost of a Kinks concert from around the time of the release of (I'm supposing) "State of Confusion".

  • A great song about a forbidden voyeuristic obsession. No, it's not about pedophilia but rather a divorced daddy with limited visitation rights unable to connect with his child. Which did indeed happen to Ray. Very moving song.

  • God save Ray Davies and The Kinks!!!

  • when woman hold a child back from having a good relationship with their fathers then they are just crummy mothers. jealous childish and bitter!! they just dont know how much damage they are causing the child by depriving them of the love of their father. the effects will last forever and you just cannot get back what is lost and can you imagine the kind of super dad ray would be and how much good he would inspire in that little girl. yes, some woman are just plain evil!

  • Absolutely one of the best songs... or should I say "abso ute y "

  • He should go and sing this song right up in the ass of the Norwegian Primer Jens Stoltenberg, who is running a MAN-EATER-HATER JUDICIAL SYSTEM IN NORWAY.

There are hundred of divorced men scattered across the Norwegian graveyards, being pressed to suicide because of the children HAVE BEEN TAKEN FROM THEM, as he sings here.

FUCK YOU JENS STOLTENBERG, YOU HAVE A SISTER WHO IS A PROSTITUTE, since she was 14; and you fancied to lurk about and look on when she dissipated her legs, in cars!!!

  • Very well said indeed drgrl...and I agree with every word! He projects emotions with his brilliant lyrics, his voice and his body language...when I first heard the song I thought of Ray's first wife leaving him with his 2 girls on his birthday...I love the Degas ballerina metaphor! I just saw Ray for the first time in my life last month in the UK, he is still incredible with his audience, charismatic and agile, too!

  • @drgrl That was so beautifully said drgrl. I wish I had written that. :-) Cheers.

  • @Nigelxman Ray can make a connection with his delivery that speaks to every human heart; even as you said to those who don't have kids, he projects those emotions so clearly, without milking the emotion. He is extraordinary, and has given his fans a virtual treasure trove of songs.

  • @drgrl Very well said. It makes me sad as well and I don't even have kids. Beautiful song

  • The way Ray combines humour and sadness is brilliant. This song always makes me sad, even while I'm enjoying the lightness and bounciness of it.

  • also; It was the 1981 "give the people what they want " album this song was from not State of Confusion.
