the real truth is, humans are psychologically dangerous by nature and even if you bring down the illusions, you'll only unravel chaos, which will put our species towards extinction. the fact is, we have to be distracted, because we just aren't ready to accept reality period. it's easy for us to indulge in fantasy because of our primitive nature. not saying the powers that be are right, but if you want a real solution, all it takes is individuals believing in themselves first.
