  • This made me cry. My grandfather who passed away in 2003 was a career air force pilot, veteran of WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, and flew as a civilian well past his military retirement. Pilots are a special breed, and there was nothing that meant more to him in life than flying.

To hear this sweet man tear up is like listening to my grandfather speak about flying all over again and it breaks my heart.

What an amazing generation these men came from.

  • These men saved the world. I can't state it any more profoundly.

  • What a humble guy! He must be great to fly with..

  • Flying 20k feet over enemy territory whilst taking flak in a tin can like that takes big brass ones. No disrespect to the aircraft but I'm sure anyone who has flown in to combat in one of those things would agree. But then again at the time no one knew any better. Everyone was flying around in one type of tin can or another when compared to the arsenal available today.

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

  • Brave brave men, the youth of today is not a patch on these guys, im 27 and this is how I feel...........

  • As a kid it always felt like the WWII generation would be around forever. The recent loss of my grandfather (a WWII vet) forced the realization of our impermanence, and it's a heartbreaking thought. Great to see this pilot getting a chance to be back in the sky in such a sweet bird.

  • sooo that landing gear issue lol..

  • He belongs to a unique generation. We owe it all to them. I can totally understand this man. Just stepping into one of these machines gets you turned back in time even if you were never there.

  • I had the privilege to do some volunteer work on the 909 and the All American with the Collins Foundation. I was 15 at the time, and even I get a little teary eyed when I see that 17, and 24 in the air.

  • THAT DUDE ROCKS
