The "health benefits" are bogus and the African trials that suggested a reduced HIV transmission in circumcised men have been refuted by various counter studies.  I would also like to say that if female circumcision were as important to the Jewish faith as male circumcision, we would still be cutting girls in America today, and there would be funded studies carried out to try and prove its 'medical benefit' in order to normalise it in secular society.

The "health issues" as well as "religious rights of the parents" are irrelevant until the Human Rights of the child are acknowledged. No Human Being should have their own body altered without their specific consent or dire medial need. THAT is the issue. As far as religious freedom is concerned, ANYONE can have their body modified by their own consent when they are old enough to understand the implication.

If jews have the right to alter the genitals of their baby boys on the grounds that it would be unconstitutional to ban such a practice, then if it was the tradition of another faith the alter the vulva of all the girls born into that faith then shouldn't that be protected by the constitution under the same reasoning ?

The problem is that the child firstly the child is not capable of independent thought and therefore does not choose to become a jew or a muslim secondly he is not able to choose whether he wants to keep his skin.

at least the skin should be left intact when he is old enough he can then get circumcised if he chooses to still practice his parents religion.

If it was something non-permanent like shaving an eyebrow off there would be no justification for a ban because he can grow it back
