Original song highlights AMC / Rambler cars. Destroy Silvey 2010. Lyrics below.

Buddy Silvey drove an American Rambler
Wanted to grow up some day .. be Ambassador
Liked staying cool in the old Kelvinator
But why would that silly fool go out
driving with a rusty radiator. (Rambler mentality)

Maybe we should have sprung for that 'ol Jeep instead
It would'a been perfiect ride for sunny weather down south
And on our way through Hudson... in Texas that is
We might have spent the day chasing Classic fillies instead. (Umm Hmmm)

And there's a time back in 1969
When Javelin, Rebel, Rouge, were smiling all the time.
And I said....
Hey man no need banging your head on The Machine
You're only a'tracking more Gremlins that way

We stopped at a little place along the way
Called Marlin Good Morning Spirit cafe
Nice little place to catch the sunrise, homemade breakfast and stuff
But man like Eagles it was time to fly

When it was time to make our way back home
We were making good time with Paul Harvery on the radio
(Good Day!)
Had to smile at that camper rig You know the one
You couldn't miss it with that little pink Pacer in tow

And there's a time back in 1969
Javelin, Rebel, Rouge, were smiling all the time.
And I said....
Hey man no need banging your head on the machine
Only a'tracking more Gremlins that way

Here we are so many years ahead
How many times have I asked ...Hey lets roll out that AMX
There'll be times when there's old hornets about
And I can think of so many things I thought about back then

And there's a time back in 1969
When Javelin, Rebel, Rouge, were smiling all the time.
And I said....
Hey man it's time to go. Roll out the AMX, come on let's go.

  • Who's song is this? Reason I ask, I grew up in Hudson...Texas that is and am an AMC guy with 2 Javelins ('70 & '72 and hopefully a '74 401 within the next couple of weeks) and a '74 401 Wagoneer, and musician and still live in Lufkin. Love that someone has done this song and assume that they must be from East Texas to put in the Hudson part. Would love to meet and swap some AMC stories and maybe play a little music.

  • @LongFrets1

Original song by me. Hope you liked it. Not from Hudson, but spent a little time in Texas many years ago. I did a bit of home work while working on the lyrics and Hudson had the perfect locale, look, feel and name of course to fit my story. If you haven't already, join us other AMC'ers over at TheAmcForum dotcom.

  • Thanks for the comments all. I've just added the lyrics to the info as well.

  • Hey man, nice job on this. Damn shame AMC went belly up. I always wanted an AMX. I used to pass a beautifully maintained one on the way to school. Too bad Detroit is so dysfunctional. Anyway, nice tribute.

  • Great song!

  • Good job destroy!

  • well done

  • The bittersweet nature of the song matches the history of AMC...very affecting video- thank you.
