To launch its new graduate programs in Fashion, Parsons The New School for Design presented an evening with alumna Donna Karan, whose support initiated one of the two programs, an MFA in Fashion Design and Society. Karan discussed her work and career, and how it has helped shape this new program. The conversation, moderated by Valerie Steele, Director and Chief Curator of The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology, will launch Workwear, an exhibition and programming series exploring the legacy of workwear in American fashion and its influence on contemporary constructions of New York as a fashion capital.

  • For an event about fashion, you'd think everybody would look fashionable. That second lady, who is the director of MFA, looks totally off with those wide shoulder pads and hideous totally black outfit, too big for her. Not to mention the haircut. Why is everbody wearing black anyway? As always, Ms. Karan is an inspiration and a role model.

  • that dumb bitch kills bunny for this shitty fashion!!

  • 7:50 Well, that explains a lot.

  • This is what true fashion is about...she truly is an inspiration, thank you!

  • I'm proud that she is my fellow New School alumni!

  • Truly inspirational conversation by Ms. Karan. I couldn't help but take notes on the words that she spoke, this is the direction that society needs to understand: "We have to be inspired by the past. Live in the present and look to the future. Mobilize these 3 areas: learn from the past, deal with what is reality today and think forward into that vision that nobody sees"- DK
