I only wish to share these clips with fellow railfans who appreciate these shots for what they are.

Now that I've placed my disclasmer, here we go:

  • Cabooses are not used any more they are probably on their way to a museum or private owner. The train crew has been reduced and one from the caboose is now up front.

  • Yup. Usually a train crew consisted of three people. The engineer, conductor & break man. Mose railroads these days have a two man crew being the breakman/ conductor & engineer. One of the main reasions the caboose isn't used these days is because of this.

  • 3 caboose ?

  • Good question. I thought the same and have as many answers as you do.

  • TEAM ENEMY!!!!!!!!

  • got a load of trailers there

  • LOL "paddywagons" that's lingo from the 30's. :)

This was shot in the mid '80s, so the caboose wasn't abolished yet, but it was on teh way out!

  • I remember these yards and cold nights working with almost frozen fingers; working with Francis MacCormick, Jim Nace and others on the 8444 and 3985 as well as cutting pinion gears along the road bed between Cheyenne and Laramie. Great work for a Latina with a bachelors in English literature and masters in library science!

  • Check out the green cars, they're ballast hoppers, from the Maintenance of Way Department. My guess is that the cabooses are MOW also.
