This song,written and composed by Rose McCoy and Gene Redd,The track (performed by The Funk Brothers),was originally scheduled to be released as my first solo effort in 1965.Instead I opted to tour the southern states in the U.S.My mom's people and my paternal grandmother's people were from Kansas and Oklahoma.My dad's people originated from Juarez and Vera Cruz, Mexico.I knew nothing of the south,so instead of following Motown to California,I headed for Atlanta,Ga.After touring for several years,I returned to Detroit,married the love of my life:Claudette Thompson,raised two wonderful sons:Sean DeMarco & Stephen Darius.My wife (Squeaky) and I formed our own publishing company (PacoSqueaky Pub Co LLC),our own media company (Astro Chemistry Records & Filmworks),our own recording artists activist organization (The Original Historical Music Society of Detroit) with offices located in Lancashire,England & Barcelona,Spain,and The Detroit Historic Musicians Association (The DHMA) ,of which all historic musicians recording and performing in Detroit (past & present) are member affiliates.I was finally presented the opportunity to record my lead vocals on this song in 1992,and the reception of this song since it's world -wide release 2008 has been nothing short of PHENOMENAL !
