The young konghou(chinese harp) musician plays classical konghou melody XiangFeiZhu (XiangFei Bamboo, the bamboo born from tears of Princesses of Xiang place).
It's an acient folktale of Xia Dynasty in china. The Emperor Yao was getting old. He determined to retire and demise his sceptre to Shun. He also espoused her two daughters Ehuang and Nuying to him.
In that Age, there were nine dragons in Xiang place. They're doing all the evils to make the world in a mess. The demised Emperor Shun decided to pacify them.
After a long time waiting for Shun's coming back, Ehuang and Nuying felt something wrong and made a decision to looking for him.
Finally they found Shun. He had won and killed the dragons. But sorrowfully he had become a tomb. Ehuang and Nuying were so sad and cried until the blood fell. Eventually they lay aside Shun's tomb and died.
Their tears spattered on the bamboo and became the spots allover the bamboo. It is the folktale of the origin of XingFei Bamboo.

  • If I would like to learn this instrument how can I do?

  • @sankky091242716 KongHou is not a commonly seen instrument in China. Rare people know about it and even difficult to know how to play it. If you would like to learn to play it, you could start from a harp and a Guzheng.

  • what is this exact piece called?

  • It's called XiangFeiZhu (Bamboo from the Princess of Xiang place)

  • That is not what Konghou looks like in old paintings. This looks more like a Western harp.

  • @doracatdodo Hi! Does anyone know where I could purchase a Konghou? I'm a harpist based in the U.S. (I'd prefer one with pedals)
