  • Awa odori is in Tokushima, NOT Kagawa!!! 'Awa kingdom' = feudal province of Tokushima.

  • Nobody said it was in Kagawa.

So, this is an Awa Odori festival that happens in Kanagawa? I knew that there were groups from outside Tokushima who perform this style, but I didn't know that there were any Awa Odori festivals besides the big one in Tokushima. I lived there for a few years. Fantastic party!

  • @nanogibbon Besides this one in Yamato, Kanagawa, there are quite a few Awa Odori festivals in the Tokyo area. They are all children of the one in Tokushima. I have videos for most of them such as in Koenji (largest outside Tokushima), Minami-Koshigaya (Saitama), Kita-Urawa, Nakamurabashi, Mitaka, Kagurazaka, Kitamachi, and Inagi. Search for "awa odori" plus any of these place names and you'll find more vids.

  • It's the Bubble Dance! There were some demonstrators performing this outside of Kyoto Station that let us try to dance with them, so fun!

  • "Awa" is this case does not mean bubble. It is the old place name for Tokushima in Shikoku where the dance originated. The kanji characters are different for "bubble."
