Written by Ted Daffan, this extremely sad ballad has been sung by many singers including Gene Pitney, Johnny Cash, Don Gibson, Ray Price and Ray Charles.

  • Marty Robbins and Ray Charles surely had great versions of this song, but I've heard all the notable attempts and the best, by far, in my opinion is by LeAnn Rimes. The great Ted Daffan line -- "You were all the happiness I knew; born to lose, and now I'm losing you" -- is not included in the LeAnn version but overall she has the seminal version of this heartbreaking song, just as Linda Rodstadt's "Long Long Time" (Gary White's heartbreak classic) cannot and has not been touched by any others.

  • I never thought anyone could outdo Ray Charles with this song, but I was wrong. Marty, you absoulutely the most beautiful voice ever set to music.

  • I wish someone would post MAKING BELIEVE I got it on lime wire but it's a very good recording he never recorded it so please if you have PLEASE post it

  • Marty Robbins and Ray Price...the best renditions of this sad song.

  • I'd like to hear a full out recording of Marty doing this...

  • gut

bitte kann das jemand von Ray Charles hochladen?

  • With all his soul - I love his interpretations and his unique voice - simply great !

  • Again a song Marty sing so wonderful.

Marty never actually recorded the song so it would have been interesting to see what a studio version would have been like. My own particular favourite version is by Johnny Rodriguez and Gene Pitney also did a very good recording of of it.
