Work in progress...........

Reactions please at part one of this cycle.

A movie showing work on a brand new "High Fashion - Montreal style Disco" track by Karel Post.
It is the fresh sound of the Montreal disco scene of the early eighties that has caught my interest. The sound of Denis Le Page / Lime and Cerrone, mixed with the West End Records sound is my goal, but a bit more spectacular in the arrangements and sounds (where i CAN....).

The synthesizers are:
Moog Memorymoog, Midimoog, Jupiter 8, Prophet 5, Juno 60, Elka Synthex MIDI, Korg Trident 1 MIDI, Akai VX90, SX340.
Drums:
Oberheim DMX, Oberheim DPX, Linn Linndrum,
Roland TR808, Simmons SDS8, Pearl Syncussion and Akai S1000

The style is explored and enhanced to a new level of club-disco to be released in New York first, as a underground release for the "West End" clubscene.

I have had earlier success with the Dub version of Rozzetta's Fantasy which was a Italo-disco production made for the Konstfack of Stockholm / Jenny Mortsell as a study.

This movie shows the real-time arranging in an unorganized way, which gives me ideas for the final arrangement, so this is NOT the final record.

Release will be approx. 9 minutes long on 12" vinyl as well as CD, contact SURESHOTRECORDS@LIVE.NL for the official release date (end of summer).

Sub-publishers welcome! As well as a GOOD female singer and a rap artist (deep voice necessary, like Hamilton Bohannon)

  • Shame about the sound quality but this sounds

awesome to me =) Any tips on making a classic

italo lead sound that you are playing on the J8?

    (Don't own a J8 myself, yet)

  • Prophet 5 does that type sounds too.

Basic ingredient: as many analog oscillators in UNISONO with a straight brass type sound.

  • actually wondering more about the bass/underlying sound heard at :43 than the saw-ey sounding bass

just trying to get better at creating sounds, can never seem to get a sound like this on either of my synths

  • @Jordo54321 The bass sound is a Juno 60 synth.

If you want to sound "alive" with synths there is nothing that beats analog classics like the Jupiter and the Juno 60.

I use the MINImoog in the track now, i will upload a video soon.

Please watch my "Charlie Conrad" video as the track is progressing more to that style of discotheque-funk..

  • Disco isn't timeless, it's nice to hear etc. but it's extremely dated. Also, disco was not the beginning of this sound, it was funk, soul and various electronic/experimental sounds from america and europe.

  • You probably haven't heard the progression of this track, as you only react to this older clip, which is outdated already.

My track has been reworked, and still is being reworked, because i want to make something special. watch the Charlie Conrad clip here on my channel, which is the latest version of this track.

  • Can you re-do this but taking proper line outs for recording? sounds awesome :)

  • seeing your work makes me want to shell out a few dollars to get this all on a high quality compact disc. I miss the days when people could make some income with music. Its killed music :(

  • LOVE IT!

    :) TSF

  • Uhhh....there is no such thing as "dated".

Dated just means "fashionable" and there is no rule that says "you can only use sounds that everybody else currently uses" to make music with.

There are plenty of artists making retro sounding soul/dance music, and it's fantastic.

People still love that sound, and want to hear it.

Not everybody loves "deep house". It's kind of a stale sounding genre.
