  • I completely and utterly agree with you. Fortunately for me, my previous white MacBook reached the end of its lifespan just in time for me to get a new one for $1099 AUD. Aesthetically I think the white MacBook underpins Apple's timeless design and that it is a true loss to axe this timeless contraption!!! Hopefully I can get many many years out of my beloved white MacBook!!

  • @codebean "So now its purpose not price"

    It was always purpose. I mentioned price as something that tipped me off to the possibility of this happening.

    "lets not have 3 mbp models then!"

    I bought an iPad over an iPod touch based on the screen size. Look, the white macbook had the same screen size that the 13" MBP had and, if updated, would probably have the same hardware under the hood. What would be the defining difference? The polyurethane shell? Give me a break.

  • @codebean "You were talking about the mba & mb with the same price "

    Incorrect. I was saying that was the first sign that the MB was going to get axed. The MB serves the SAME purpose that the 13" MBP serves. The exact-same-purpose. That's what made the MB the odd man out. Served the same purpose as the MBP but had the same price as the MBA. Doesn't make sense to keep it from a business standpoint.

    "yes and so do the mba & mb"

    No, the MB serves the SAME purpose that the MBP serves.

    cont

  • @sc0pl355 You were talking about the mba & mb with the same price remember not the mbp & mb....

    Quote from scopless: "They have the same starting price.It is clear that Apple is gearing the MBA to be their entry level product instead of the MB." Hence the reference to the imac and mbp with the same price.

    "they serve two totally different purposes", yes and so do the mba & mb,despite the same price.So now its purpose not price well lets not have 3 mbp models then!Lets really limit ppls choice!

  • @codebean "Yes the mbp and imac have same price they must obviously compete with each other as well then."

    ok, now you're being silly. they serve two totally different purposes. So NO, they don't compete with each other. If you want what one offers over the other then you have to get that one.

    " It's bad for apple to do this they must throw away either 21" imac or the 13" mbp."

    They don't compete with each other because they serve different markets. The MB served the SAME market as the MBP

  • @codebean "Yes you're right they should just construct one computer "

    That's basically what they do. One computer per class with only screen sizes to differentiate them.

    MBA= Ultraportable

    MBP= Slimline Laptop

    Mac Mini= Mini PC

    iMac= All in one

    Mac Pro= Workstation tower

    "it costs too much for them to make multiple computers."

    I was referring to economy of scale. Selling the MB would be fine if there were anything to set it apart from a MBP other than the polyurethane case.

  • @sc0pl355 Yes you're right they should just construct one computer and tell the customers if it doesnt have the price/performance or portability you want or need that's just too bad as it costs too much for them to make multiple computers.

    Yes the mbp and imac have same price they must obviously compete with each other as well then. It's bad for apple to do this they must throw away either 21" imac or the 13" mbp.

  • @codebean "I dont think the mb competes with mba"

    They have the same starting price. It is clear that Apple is gearing the MBA to be their entry level product instead of the MB.
