This is a slideshow video of photos and classic paintings of the moon set to The Traveller's Prayer by John Renbourn. John Renbourn wrote the words to Traveller's Prayer after researching the ancient songs of the Carmina Gadelica . This is based loosely on a prayer called The New Moon. There are several prayers with the moon as the main subject that are in this collection of ancient works collected by Alexander Carmichael. I advise all to buy John Renbourn,'s CDs. For the Traveller's Prayer see Ship of Fools.

  • Wow... This is gorgeous!! Happy Imbolc, everyone!!

  • @renaessance Happy Imbolc, or Candlemas. The light is returning and spring is around the corner.

  • This is a lovely song, and I enjoy the pictures, but the singers aren't really syncing up, or listening to each other, the harmonies can be really beautiful.

  • @liaquirk I think it is wonderful as it is , it is perfection to my ears because it sounds as I would imagine some every day people would sing a prayer. The John Renbourn Group is performing it and John Renbourn wrote this.

  • @liaquirk Also see Polyphonic singing. This type of singing is related to that type of music.

  • Very nice photos. You cought the atmosphere of the song with the pictures. Thanks for that!

  • Thank you for your impute, I really appreciate it. I guess you can tell I love this song.

  • @goonwards John Renbourn recorded this 2 times: On the album John Renbourn Group - Ship of Fools and on John Renbourn - Traveler's Prayer. This version is the Ship of Fools one.

  • this is beautiful. thank you.

  • Beautiful song and pictures. Interesting to discover when I investigated what the Carmina Gadelica was and it turns out it was a collection of prayers and songs from the Western Isles of Scotland and originally in Gaelic.

Dig deep and there's always a link to the tiny nation of Scotland somewhere. lol!

  • Heard this on a BBC folk programme many years ago,and have searched for it ever since. Thank you so much for putting it up here.

  • Beautiful !! Phalaïna
