They are not protecting their faces. In my dojo, my sensei will purposly hit you in the face during sparring if you don't have your hands up.

Sith vs Jedy?

@LeBadman I beg your pardon head puches are allowed though with only limited contact.
this isn't kyokushin or any of its offshoots
-
@TheEborden Can be, but in karate that is not allowed. I don't even think it is allowed in Ju Jitsu (which I have been practicing for six years). However I don't think many people focus on the head. Most focus on finding an opening there for the plexus or the kidneys/liver etc.

@LeBadman Straying from the fundamentals of any martial art is a problem though. Martial arts were originally designed for self protection in a hand-to-hand combat situation. The head is a very important part of your body that you must protect as it has weak points such as the temples, eyes, jaw, throat, and even ears. Besides, your competitor can gain points by throwing a punch to your head when it is unprotected in such a low belt ranking match, even if it only reaches half a foot away.

@boltondriv Well said. Many guys on YouTube come and criticize these videos, saying they are 'fantasy' and 'not safe'. Their minds are highly limited. Us the ones who are enlightened, peaceful and wise, we have the mental upper hand. Respect is key.

@TheEborden Not allowed in Karate or any other discipline. That is wrong of your sensei. In our dojo, we do not pain each other, purposely.

haha I acctually were there with my clubxD and I think that was the 12-13 year olds championship, and when I saw the red belt guy I though they lied about his agexD

Karate is fear management, not danger management. Since all fighting done in the dojo is fantasy fighting, not much of it will help you in a real life fight.
Take the safe method if you feel truly threatened, RUN!!! If your willing to kill someone, use a fucking gun.
Various comments here about these guys sparring. The point missed is that they have the guts to get up on the mats and have a go. So we are all naturally Dan grades when we start? In future years these guys may become high grade Instructors. The martial Arts is all about respect, some of the comments written do not show that. For the guys sparring, just keep training...isn't that what we all try to do? Oss Andy 1st Dan Wadoryu

Thank you very much Andy. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but some are just rude! My son happens to be the little guy and it was his first competition! Myself as a mother was and continues to be very proud of him. He is now a first Dan black belt himself, but still learning. Thank you once again for your kind words of encouragement.
