Mattel launched the Mongo Bat in 1994 with this commercial. The idea was simple: a bat that was so immense that if you could swing the bat you could hit the ball, and when you did you'd be rewarded with a booming gong sound coming out of the bell of the open-ended bat. Mattel only marketed the toy for a year in it's short-lived quest to compete with Nerf, and then dropped the Aviva line altogether. The bat's inventor was Wade McNary, who also developed several products for OddzOn Product, the Koosh company.
