ZX SPECTRUM digital AY music: Flash Tracker Demo

ZX Spectrum was in some ways similar to Amiga 500. Samples (digital sounds) were used in ZX games/demos since 80s. In 1992 apeared first tracker fully operating on samples (like Amiga 500) and it was called simply Sample-Tracker. It can play digital music with AY chip or Z80 chip (beeper) in both cases with 3 channels of AY sound (so-called ZX-MOD).

As You can see, not too much movement on da screen while playing: it's because for better quality of sound all CPU's powers (3,5 Mhz only!!) go for music-procedure.

However ZX Spectrum is the only 8-bit computer capable (while playing 3-channel digital music) to show full-screen pictures and additional moving effects, like scrolls or analyzers.

This is a tune from Flash Tracker Demo by Flash Inc, made for ZX Spectrum 48Kb with AY interface (also can work on Spectrum 128K of course).

Wow... this actually chews the C64's SID chip and spits it back out. The AY Chip in the 128 and up models sounds FANTASTIC!!

@Tamanozke Heh, what can I say - it sounds _much_ better from real machine, real ZX Spectrum. :) (Can be also Spectrum48K with AY-interface).

Actually I'm a fan of Plus4/116 and its TED chip. Also it's able to emulate SID (last times I discovered a discmag that does it) and surely can also play digital stuff - maybe simply nobody programmed it to do this yet. :)

That's one chip: AY. The second one mentioned in the scroll is optional, it's kinda covox. But I took my recording from AY of course.

To gra jeden chip: AY. Ten drugi, wspomniany w scrollu, jest opcjonalnie - rodzaj covoxa. Ale to nagranie to oczywiscie AY.
