METALLICA's ULRICH 'I'm The Hugest U2 Fan — I Would Borderline Call Myself A Groupie'

Australia's Faster Louder went backstage at a METALLICA gig this week to get up close and personal with the band's drummer, Lars Ulrich. Over the course of 15 very funny minutes, he talked about everything from the band's documentary, "Some Kind Of Monster", to why he is unashamedly the world's biggest U2 fan. Good on you lars. U2 and metallica are different but are both great. When they are done they will have one of the biggest footprint on music not just rock. And to all the U2 and bono haters, really what has he done to you? Thank God that rock n roll is diverse. Hating u2 doesn't make you cool. In time you'll know.

Yep, it would have added a lot of extra street cred for him to throw out the jaded old lines about Bono being up his own ass, about U2 sellng out to commericalism etc - yep, he had the chance to ingratiate himself with the young and pretentiously knowledgeable music herd that rubbish U2.

But he proved himself much cooler by telling the truth and not caring. Trend followers should take note - cool guys think for themselves.

Oh man. I never expected this! I mean i'm a hardcore metalhead (Maiden, Dio, Priest & Sabbath are regulars in my playlist) but i'm also a huge, huge fan of U2! They always inspire me to play in a band and make it big and give something back to the world!
