Familiarity is supposed to be higher than human likeness. We judge whether something is human based on how it ACTS, not how it LOOKS. When familiarity dips below human likeness, that's the Uncanny Valley. It's when you see something that looks human.... but everything it does and says is obviously forged and not-human. Like when an android smiles. YOU KNOW THAT SMILE IS FAKE.
The "this isn't right..." feeling is the Uncanny Valley :o

Isn't Japan struggling with unemployment right now, like much of the rest of the world? If they can't employ all their real people, why would they want to build fake ones to take whatever jobs are left?
