Parasite time is the activities that detract from your goals and objectives. Little stuff like commuting, errands, "checking stuff out" or any other time sink that doesn't serve you. My speech is about the method for how to go about forming your objective, listing all your activities and finding the parasites sucking away your free time. Give yourself a break, but ensure you are doing something to better yourself everyday. Little chunks of time make a massive difference over a long enough time scale. Focus on your time!

  • I enjoyed the speech. Interesting message and even more interesting delivery of using the "Wheel of time". Great visual! Great speech!! Look forward to seeing more :)

  • @RoxyLTH Thank you! I'll have to investigate similar visuals for my next speech idea too :D

  • Great speech, Beau! It made me think about how I spend my time. And I understand about the camera malfunctions--happens to me, too!

  • @ladytooner Thank you Lady, I really appreciate you taking the time to check out my video. Next time I will make sure I have control over both cameras. The other camera used a Mini-DVD as the recording medium and it seems there was a skip in the audio at a couple points. It's tough to make it work with crappy audeo sync but next time I will prevail!

  • Great speech, it really got me thinking about my own parasite time.

I would also suggest that depending upon the goals, not all the parasite time is always lost. Luckily some parasite activities can allow for multitasking, i.e. practicing your speech while driving to work or to the toastmasters meeting. The original goal: Toastmaster Champion title in 2011.

  • @yadranko Excellent point my man, you could compound your activities so that you are occupying the normally underutilized time. The hardest challenge is actually going thru and identifying that a particular activity is parasitic to your time and overall goals. Your point merits followup in another speech I think around batching time and compound activities. Thanks!

  • great speech and thanks for the insights

  • @Beausafk I'm sure you'll correct it for next time. But the speech is still great!

  • @Tuathalful That's an interesting point of view in regards to how folks should focus their efforts to progress because of the environment more than the person's own will. There are a number of ways people could evaluate their usage of time, and everyone can set their own metrics for its usage. Supply and demand dictated my pursuing of an MBA simply because there are just not as many people with advanced degrees compared to the general pool of workers. For a goal there has to be sacrifice

  • My parasitic time forces me to watch youtube videos when I should be working!
