Pat Metheny Group / We Live Here. Geffen; 1993
Personal Note:
I consider this song to be the most beautiful musical composition ever written... This is art in its purest form! It just has an amazing transformative ability to serve as a soundtrack for one's life... complete with all the classic elements of the human condition; from innocent, fragile, pensive origins to chaotic tragedy to triumph and finally, resolve... all delivered in a tremendously emotion provoking structure of elegant, yet simple musical framework.
The weight of the song is carried by Steve Rodby's phenominal performance on the acoustic/double bass... and if its Rodby's bass line that serves as the solid backbone of the piece, its Lyle Mays' soulful piano that serves as its life blood... absolutely beautiful work by both of these guys. Bby no means does this belittle Pat's elegant performance on the guitar that seems to weave it all into being with the faintest of effort... less IS more!
Unfortunately, the length of the song, 12 min. 14 sec., exceeds the 10 min Youtube time limit. In order to experience the song as intended, it really should be heard, uninterupted, in its entirety. In trying to accomplish this, I've posted it in two parts... and to make the transition as disruptive as possible, I've included them together on a Playlist, which tends to be a bit more seamless... Please feel free to visit my channel anytime if you'd like to hear it in that format.... just click "6ixtymiles" above, then click "Playlist" at the top of my video monitor and then "To The End Of The World"
