This is a vid of me playing Paddy's Green Shamrock Shore or the melody of the song Gleanntáin Ghlas Ghaoth Dobhair which translates to the green glens of Gweedore, a song a well known celtic music artist named Altan does.

You will notice the drones sound differant. I put a copper pipe 14.5cm long into the top of the middle drone as you can see from the vid. I had to grind the end of the pipe that goes into the drone to a taper so it would fit. I used a hand-held grinder that plugs into an air compressor with a very small grinding disc. I had to open the bridle of the reed on the middle tenor to take more air or otherwise the reed shuts off. I then tune the middle tennor to the E note on the pipe chanter.

  • Jreinke!!, that weekend I was playing "Raglan road" with the drone extension and it sonuds GREAT!!!!!. Try it!!

  • I sent you a private maessage with my email address for you to send me the sheet music for Ragland Road. If you want me to play that on here than I need that sheet music.

  • Hi Jreinke, I'm Alosnup. A good way to economize the air is using the drone reeds SM90 from Shepherd bagpipes. That reeds had a nice system to regulate the vibration of the reed tongue. When I use the reed extension, you have to leave more trajectory at the tongue, only moving the reed ferule a milimetter. The SM90 is the reeds that we all use at our "band".

  • Thank you for the information. I never thought to use a drone reed extendor. I will need to try that!

  • yah, the sound in this one is a lot better. I like how the drones sound though. It seems to fit the tune well. Have you tried other tunes with the same experiment?

  • Yes, I have tried other tunes with this experiment. I will post more vids of this setup with other tunes as soon as I can, I still have more vids of my scotland trip to upload and busy with work and what not. I;m trying as hard as I can to make time to record more vids for the tube.

  • Where can I find the sheet music for bagpipes? Thanks.

  • what is that tube in your middle drone for?

  • Happy St. Patrick's Day.

  • Awesome! I can't find enough words to express my feelings!

  • Thanks for the idea man, I've been really enjoying it!!! The only thing I don't like about it is how much more air that middle drone takes when I have to adjust the reed to compensate for the long tube at the end of the drone.
