He wrote a song called life begins at 40...

@pmoyer50 Billy Preston wasn't used until Let it Be. Do you mean Nicky Hopkins, maybe? Because he played on several Lennon/McCartney tracks around the time of the White Album.

I really wish Ringo recorded and released this song as a tribute to John.

Poor Ringo and his deformed eyebrow. Also poor John and his being dead and having him mommy die when he was a child-boy.
-
@beatles4ever I never knew that.

@pmoyer50 George used Billy Preston's keyboard wizardry to enhance his songs with the Beatles as well. Preston hadn't even played with the Beatles at the time WMGGW was recorded, anyway. Of course, Preston was practically a permanent fixture in the George Harrison bands of the 70s, too.

@cathkinghost Yea, remember when Lennon was saying at the Let it Be sessions he just wanted to do an honest f***ing record. Makes you think he was tired of the records being over produced.

@pmoyer50 George just brought Clapton along to that session, it was his song anyway and the Beatles had used session musicians be it trumpet players and such. The same with Billy Preston, Harrison felt that if an outstider were brought along then there wouldn't be as much infighting around a guest. The sessions of Get Back/Let it Be were such a strain that Harrison quit the band.

From what I understand, George had to fight to have Clapton play lead on While my Guitar Gently Weeps. He used the fact that John and Paul had Billy Preston enhance their songs with his keyboard wizardry to win the argument. George certainly was not the first Beatle to draw on other talent to enhance a song. Really enjoyed this posting. Thanks.

John gave this song to Ringo for his "Stop and Smell the Roses" album. John was killed 3 weeks after he gave Ringo the song. Ringo was devastated by John's death and didn't have the heart to use the song so he gave the demo back to Yoko. She put it on Milk and Honey.

Ringo should record this himself if John meant it for him. Ringo would sound great singing it !
