have you gone to the website and registered and got a key? If not then it will say that you ran out of days because you haven't registered for your free license yet. Do that and you will have it free for a year and when that is up you can just go get another license.

I guess I can't say that your wrong because I don't have that problem but what I do have 2 say is that If it crashes your comp you either have 2 many programs running or your computer is lame:P...

Also:
You are correct, the only drawback of avast! is the fact that it doesn't have any in built schedulers for anything.
Hopefully, this will be a future feature of avast!.
