This is a Federal Signal - Modulator Speaker Array - Model MOD3012

Thought I'd show everyone an oddly close video of a Federal Signal outdoor warning alarm. It's located on top of a parking garage at the University of South Florida. I thought it was interesting because of the location and the warning label that says I could get hearing damage by being too close...

  • thats diffrent manly i would think they would have it some were in the Midwest i only have heard of one Tornado in Florida

  • @AlliedWaste76 We have tornados all the time here. They usually aren't that strong. The strong ones seem to be spawned by hurricanes as the hurricane is coming ashore.

  • For something that can be heard miles and miles and miles away lol I'm sure upclose that thing is killer loud! Very interesting find, never seen one, and probably will not ever see one since I live in AZ :D

  • @JaccobDalton I really don't know, I just hope I'm not next to it when it does go off. LOL

  • i would laugh if that went off when you rite there lol

  • @Binboy112 Seems odd that they'd mount it in a place where you can literally stand right next to it.

  • I want to buy that modulator speaker array, but i dont know how to order, i need a UV controller, but how many? for the model MOD4016?... its say UV + 4 UV400, but what thats it means? its an emergency, please help me to my mail jcanco347@hotmail.com... tnxs

  • Those "platters" have a speaker in them - all but the lowest, anyway - and the sound comes out between each pair, the curved surfaces forming an omnidirectional sound projector. Usually these are NOT placed where you can walk up to them, and I'd hate to be near that when it activates!

  • One of these days somebody will be up there walking to their car and that thing will go off and permanently deafen them...I guess the dunderheads that put it there didn't think about that...Perhaps they'll think about it when their bank balance suddenly hits 0...

  • @JaccobDalton The ASU campus has a few Whelens hanging about. Also there's an STH-10 sitting on the corner of 83rd Ave and Peoria behind Wendy's. :D

  • WOW what a SMART place to put something like that!! GOOD JOB FLORIDA!!!!

  • Nice video! I love sirens
