Eagles & Vultures tells the parallel narratives of Samuel Johnson's "The Vulture," published in 1756 and the life story of Mohamed Sahnoun: born in colonial Algeria; imprisoned and tortured by the French during the Algerian struggle for independence; Ambassador on three continents; UN Special Envoy to Somalia, Sudan, Congo, Ethiopia and Eritrea; and presently, considered one of the foremost experts on conflict resolution. Threaded with a retelling of Johnson's short story, published almost three hundred years ago, Sahnoun offers us advice on where we have been and the one means to get to where we need to be, in world where peace is a option.
