"Purpose Driven" author Rick Warren has disseminated teachings that need to come under biblical scrutiny. As pastors are placed in a position of serious responsibility, it is critical that they protect their flocks by evaluating Warren's teachings in light of God's Word.

This Crosstalk featured just such a pastor. His name is Larry DeBruyn and he's the Senior Pastor of Franklin Road Baptist Church of Indianapolis, Indiana. He's also the author of the book, Church on the Rise: Why I Am Not a "Purpose-Driven" Pastor.

Pastor DeBruyn sensed the urgency for the book in November 2006 when he was teaching in Hungary and suffered a massive coronary. After getting back to the U.S. he decided to make it a priority to examine this subject and tell his congregation why he doesn't identify with the "purpose-driven" philosophy of local church ministry.

I don't want to be a purpose driven Christian. I want to be a Biblical driven Christian. I don't want to go to a Purpose driven church. I want to go to a Bible driven church. I don't want to do what I am wired to do because I am wired to sin. I want to get unwired and let Jesus IN.

You are correct. In fact, when God saves someone, He has given that individual EVERYTHING. Eternal life is the absolute best gift anyone could ever be given, and it's totally undeserved.

This is the reason why the whole idea of rewards is not true. The reward is eternal life given by the undeserved grace of God. To ask or hope for more than eternal life simply is to be ignorant of all that God has done.

I am so angry with Mr Warren I can't stand it!

Yes, I too fell for his bull and am so grateful that God woke me up.

Funny though, even when I was into the CD's & books, I still felt

something wasn't right. That was the "Holy Spirit knocking". :-)

He will pay dearly for his false teachings to so many who were only seeking good.

I approached the pastors at 1st. Baptist Daytona when this first came out. I was teaching bible study but had to leave the church as they would not even consider my observations.

So much for discernment.

Christ did not come to make the world a better place. He came to pay for our sins.

his book suggests to "follow a muslim" as a man of peace.

I was in the middle east for 1 1/2 years and know ALLbout what a muslim is. Peace is only when death has occured to all Isralis and American, as per their own koran book. Just look on YT. So, warren is very insane. By the way. I had many attempts on my life by "peaceful" muslim ppl. what an insane book!
