Video covers day-to-day activities at Da Nang Air Base during the Vietnam War, from both the Air Force and Marine Corps sides of the base.
The quality of the video is excellent and includes incredible aerial views (approximately 15 minutes worth) of the entire base.
Also includes film footage of the Marines coming into Da Nang in 1965. There are also great shots of numerous areas on the base including: 23rd Air Base Group Headquarters, 15th Aerial Port Squadron passenger terminal, 366th Tactical Fighter Wing Warriors Command Post, Camp Da Nang, 41st Wing, 14th Tactical Fighter Squadron, mess buindings, living and recreation facilities, and much more.
@fninthsun62 My uncle was at Da Nang sometime between '67 & '71. He "worked" on Hueys? I think he said he spent some time in Okinawa as well(?) Is that possible. I don't think he ever lied to us but never felt like he was fully open w/ what all went on.I was 5 in '67 but was always watching the news and interested in the war. He said he didn't see combat. I thought that was strange because he was a Marine & figured they were all in the jungles ...

I remember liberty at Da Nang along Doc Lap street and the river: Bamboo Restaurant, New Chicago Caberet bar, and the Select Club with patio "dining". Cyclos, push carts with everything from watches to dried squid, and the SMELL!

I was there from July '65 to May '66. 9th Marines. As a grunt we rotated to the airbase every third month from the field to serve as airbase defense battalion. We had hardback GP medium tents at the southeast side of the base, outside the jet revetments. We did bunker watch along the perimeter. Worst place was Gate 6 at the south end of the runway when the F-4s and Canberras took off. One night a Canberra blew up during the takeoff run right behind us. Bombs going off for several minutes.

great video, great place, its just a shame that so many died, both allied and vn in this conflict. I have been to Da Nang and unbelievible no one holds a grudge, which is good as a grudge is only good for keeping your car in, everybody there rides motor bikes.
