@professorxox well first of all the green spotted puffer isn't a fresh water fish... get some salt in there for him (Which means you need a new tank, because although cichlids could live in a very slight brackish water... they shouldn't)
To answer your question, yes it probably is the puffers fault that the dempsey is dead... puffers are highly toxic.
Really upset today. Bought a 1" green puffer and put him in with my cichlids. I have a 5" beautiful Jack Dempsey that tried to eat him, then spit him out. 2 minutes later, the Jack is dead! Was it because of the Pufffer??

interesting... most puffers have a poisonous liver... i wonder if he survived.. i hear if they suck air they die... atleast fairly often
