Great info.
This video describes the work I needed help with.
I plan to look for more info on what end play is and how to have it correct.
Your vid gives a good basis to start from.

Nice video;very informative,
I think I have a nice main seal leak and am considering pulling the engine (1300) to replace it.
I don't have the jig to measure the freeplay and was considering reusing the shims that are already in there...bad idea?

Before you pull the engine grab the crank pulley and give it a good push towards the front of the car then give it a hard pull it back. if it moves a lot then you end lay is way off or the case is beat out at the thrust bearing and case would have to be machined. If it don't move a lot the old shims will work OK.

when starting to set the endplay start by using the shims that were in the engine to start with. More likely then not they will give you the right setting.
