In this video, Sifu Eddie demonstrates the usage of searching hands from the Bak Mei Sup Jee form. In this clip, Sifu begins with a Phoenix eye. When the attack is blocked, Sifu then uses the searching hands to pass the defense. As Sifu passes the block, he then destroys his opponent's elbow structure through both his strike, & his closing of the gap. Although Bak Mei Kung Fu does not use Chi Sao, Sifu Eddie Chong has incorporated many of Bak Mei's principles & teaches them through the context of Chi Sao.

  • will you mind if i visit your school to do some friendly light chi sao when i'm in sacramento?

  • @devilzmantis that i can't answer, as i have not been a part of the school for quite a while. however (when i was a regular) we'd been visited by students from other schools. those that were courteous & respectful were treated likewise. i think a call ahead of time will gain permission. warning: if intentions are not pure, stay away. not just from a wc perspective, but also because a good bit of the senior students are also law enforcement officers (prison guards, police, swat, etc.).

  • also since i have add adhd when my mind begin swerving off topic i drill the images of practice momets in my head and build a feeling i guesss this helps iwht mucscle memory. i also see fuk sau used alot in ur sifu chi sau that cool since ifeel taht in chung fuk sau and wu sau(i think that right) are the most important since the general transition into other hand techniques u sould check out of of chinaboxer wing chun vids he s a student of hawkins chun

  • @kaindrg Yes I am a fan of chinaboxer as well. Yes, muscle memory is good, but be careful. You don't want to get into the habit of stringing together combos like some boxers or a video game. That's why it's also important to work out with different people... so you don't develop combos based on their biased strikes or defenses. I like working out with people & taking mostly defense. This allows me to focus more on feeling whats coming & then responding vs. getting carried away striking.

My Si-gung is Li Yang Jian.

To be honest, I'm not sure who my Si-jo is. The Bak Mei is of the Fu Shan lineage.

  • @gwh29 "friendly light chi sao" = good intentions. I would just go there and watch probably. thanks

  • @kaindrg That I do not know. Unfortunately I do not know much about the other arts. I'd love to, but not enough time & opportunity. Plus I have a hard enough time with just progressing with WC.

  • @kaindrg IMO improvisation is fine if you truly understand the core principles. If not, you may introduce inefficiencies & weaken your abilities against competent fighters. Mind set is very important, which is why sparring is essential. However, when I watch the really good guys fight, it seems to come down to sensitivity. The more sensitive fighter seems to always be able to get a half step ahead. Sticky hands!

  • @kaindrg EXACTLY!! A lot of time when you get hit by those wimpy looking strikes, you still stamper back a few steps. It's really because they are moving in, destroying your root & then occupying your space with their more stable root. Thus, you move out of their space -- not by choice.
