my grandma was german and I was raised speaking both and my dad remarried a deaf woman and i picked up asl easy and as a kid it is easy to learn but it isn't the same as ASL sign classes in many ways IMHO.

I went through the same thing. I am a Coda myself. My brother is also deaf. I have deaf cousins and aunts also. I had a hard time adapting in the hearing world because my parents was hiding me from it. I really enjoyed listening to your story. Now days deaf people are able to do more. My mother became a nurse and she has been doing it for about 17 years now.
