Gene Gullingsrud, MD is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Minnesota Medical School. He regularly lectures to medical students and residents from Mayo and UM. He also teaches cataract surgery nationally and internationally. He is with Edina Eye Physicians and Surgeons, P.A. in Minnesota.
This surgery is of a dense pseudoexfoliation cataract, one which we see quite commonly in Minnesota. It shows how a relatively challenging case can be easily handled using modern techniques. Even when unexpected things happen during surgery, the skilled surgeon who keeps his/her wits about them can overcome any obstacle!
