There were some religious idiots who spoke out against Teletubbies, but it really just became a big joke and Tinky Winky became a celebrity for a while in the US. I could see some sponsors not wanting to be associated with this skit because surely there are people who would be offended by it, but there is no outright ban on skits like this. It would be a matter of sponsors being fearful of offending potential customers. Understandable, given the history of racism we are trying to grow out of.
