Decided to make a video for a contest on Badger and Blade (the wet shaving mega site). Here I demonstrate how I make a shaving lather using a brush, and traditional style shaving soap.

Feel free to offer tips, and advice on how I can improve my technique.

I have considered filming an update to this video, as it should really only take 2-3 minutes to build an effective lather. Explaining how to do something on video adds quite a bit of time to the process.

By the way, I wake up at 6am everyday, and report to work at 8am. I work a standard 40 hour week just like everyone else. Making unfounded assumptions makes you look like an idiot.

  • Thank you so much! I've gone back to using a straight razor, and I just got a soap and brush kit. I was doing it completely wrong, getting thin, watery lather with no body. I appreciate you making this video, and now I know how to get that lovely lather like I get at the barber shop. There's nothing better than a clean shave with a straight razor, except for one with no nicks! Thanks again. :-)

Congrats on using the straight razor!! I have taken up straight shaving myself the last few months, and there certainly is a learning curve.

I have a Boker King Cutter 5/8 round point, a Parker Shavette that uses 1/2 DE blades, and a Feather Artist Club.

I also have a Dovo Stainless Shavette, and a 5/8 Razolution straight razor with granite looking scales on the way. WOOT!!

  • Great vid man! I just got started with a straight razor and aside from the major learning curve of using one, my biggest problem has been getting a good lather going. I'll have to try doing it exactly like you next time to see how that works.

  • John the slob LOOSER who Posts on the badger and blade website has no life and is so obese he has never seen his 2 inch dick.

It is also said he likes young boys.

  • Is ok too anyway?

  • How would you go about melting the soaps together?

  • why do you always put your fingers on the bristles of the brush?

you mention this about 4 times throughout the video.

i was just wondering if that was for a specific purpose, or if its just something you like to do...

    ?

  • thanks for the clip it was useful for me

  • How can you tell if it's ready? Sorry for the noob question. I just ordered my first safety manual razor, brush and shaving soap. Thanks in advance.

  • I agree with some of the comments as far as it took a long time and was a waste of soap cake. But I also think that your untitled to do it any way you like and take as long as you like. Shaving is an art not a routine. I have a suggestion for you, try turning the mug or lather bowl upside down and building lather this will keep moister and most of the build up in side the brush and build a deep lather in it. Don't worry about it spilling cuz it won't as long as you keep moving the brush. I hav

Your time must not be valuable then. Your comments surely aren't. Give the guy a break.
